MY Life

"Well, I think it should be a right for every American. In a country as wealthy as ours, for us to help people who are going bankrupt because they can't pay their medical bills" Obama.

I, like Obama, believe that health care is a right, I know that some people take advantage of health care , but the people that really need it and use it and are grateful for it. Like for my family there was one point when we had to choose between getting food for that week or buying Alex's drugs. Sometimes we would have to go to food banks when we would choose to buy Alex's drugs. The drugs we had to buy for Alex were not like Tylenol or Aspirin, these drugs are what kept him alive and under control. This should be a right because these are things that keep people alive like food and water and if it is a right for these basic needs, isn't it also a right for medicine?

Thank god my brother has Medicaid. This is a program that pretty much pays for all the things we need for both diabetes and his disability. It is so hard for my family to rely on the government in this way because it is such a fragile recourse, and we know that things could happen at any moment. There was one time when we got a letter in the mail saying that we did not qualify for Medicaid any more. We all started freaking out so we called them and they were like sorry you still have it.

There are so many things that I feel need to be changed about health care in this country, like it needs to be more accessible to everyone. If health care were more accessible there would be a lot less people on the streets because they would not have to pay as much for medications and would have money to pay other bills. Also I do not feel like the government really cares about my family and our need for health care, they just give it to us and not really know how it helps us. I bet if they knew how it really helped the families that had it they would make it more accessible and care more about their citizens needs.

To me Alex is not just a sibling. He is not just my twin. He is my teacher, he has taught me so much about the person I want to be. About the fact I do not want to judge people because we are not all perfect. And most people that judge others are just trying to make themselves feel better and you should not take it personally. He has also shaped my beliefs. Not only my beliefs about faith or family but also my beliefs about politics, like health care and education. I know that there are always going to be people that are going to judge people that have special needs, I guess all I want is for people to understand that they are people too, they feel, care and have moments just like us. Also if you ever see a family and it looks like they need help please ask them, the worst thing that can happen is they can say no.

Be kind whenever possible it is always possible”

The New President!

Wow, he won it seems so unreal, we have been talking about this so long weather it is about Bush getting out of office, or Mccain or Obama becoming the next president. I cant believe it. They both really put up a good fight. And a lot of people that have never been really into the election have become really into what is going on. After Obama won he said an amazing speech, there were so many points he brought up but the one the really caught my eye was when he said “It’s the answer spoken by young and old, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled- Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always be the United States of America.” This quote to me is talking about how we need to come together as a nation and stop being a place of all this separation to be a place that is brought together as one no matter who you are.

I have so many hopes for Obama being president like the hope that we as a country will be able to be come one and support each other more. Or the hope the hope that things with health care will become better. Or that my family and other families will be come better money wise. I also hope for Sara Palin even though I did not really ever like her that much I hope she has more of a voice in Washington and her son with disabilities lives a good life.

There are a lot of things that scare me in this election. I feel like there is so much on the line in this election things like the war in Iraq, health care, environment, education, and the economy. To me education is a big thing because I feel that every one has the right to a good education no matter what town you come from how old you are or what disability you have this is what keeps our world going. To me health care is also important because of my brother, and I feel like if Mccain wins he will not care as much about people like me who need health care, but if Obama wins he will make health care better. There is also the economy this matters because we do not want a lot of homeless people and money is something that is needed in our society. If Mccain win he will not care as much about the lower class, and if Obama wins he will care more about the people in lower classes and help us.

After all these hopes and fears I still wonder if Obama is really going to live out all the thing he said he was going to do because this is a really big job and there is so much on the line, and so much to fix. I really hope he can do it and he continues to have the support of our country and other countries because he will really need it. I guess I never really realized how much other countries care about who becomes are next president but I guess what happens here affects them because of things like the war, and the alliances that we have made with them. I also really hope he does not turn out like almost every politicians and go back on there word.
